The result was not the magnum opus which Chambers had contracted for Random House as follow-up to Witness, with working title The Third Rome, although varies essays intended for that book appear in Cold Friday.
The posthumous books reflectS different facets of Chambers’s later writings, including poetry and family letters — snapshots, as it were, of his last years.
