National Review
William F. Buckley, Jr.

In 1957, Whittaker Chambers yielded to repeated entreaties from William F. Buckley, Jr. and joined the editorial staff of National Review. For the next 18 months, Chambers wrote 14 articles for the magazine. Then, he resigned and took his second and final journey to Europe (where he met, among others, Arthur Koestler).

Starting with quotes by Buckley himself, snippets and sound bytes from these articles have appeared and continue to appear, particularly among current or former National Review writers. The meaning Chambers intended in the full articles, however, is often at odds with post-mortem interpretation, which should make these articles informative for interested readers.
